The winners of the annual pie contest are: Susan deFrance (tempered), Gifford Waters (untempered), and Joella Walz (decorated).
This year's mystery meat was goat.
This year's recipients of the Charles H. Fairbanks Award are: Matthew Curtis, Donna Nash, Tanya Peres, Frederick Smith, and Gifford Waters. Each will receive a cash award to be used to complete their dissertations.
Matt Curtis' dissertation is on holocene archaeology and the development of complex society in the Horn of Africa. His research is supervised by Peter Schmidt.
Donna Nash's research is supervised by Michael Moseley. Her dissertation is on Wari administration and residential space in the Osmore drainage, Peru.
Tanya Peres' dissertation is on the economy and environment at the Zapotal site, Panama. Her research is supervised by Lynette Norr.
Fred Smith is researching the historical archaeology of alcohol and drinking in the Caribbean. Kathleen Deagan is his advisor.
Gifford Waters' dissertation research, supervised by Kathleen Deagan, focuses on cultural and ethnic identity and change among mission Indians in Spanish colonial Florida.
