Title : Professor, joint appointment with African American Studies
Interests : African diaspora, the Caribbean, social inequality, human rights, political economy, history of anthropology, critical race feminism
Programs : Cultural Anthropology
Personal Statement
I'm a political anthropologist interested in culture, politics, and political economy as they relate to forms of social inequality. My approach is one that emphasizes race, gender, class, and (trans)national identity as interlocking dimensions of difference, inequality, and power. Over the years, I've done extensive ethnographic and documentary research in the United States, Great Britain, and the Caribbean; however, my research interests have taken me to other places as well, including Mexico, Denmark, South Africa, and China.
